SOME LEISURE TIME!

Had a lovely time at a party thrown by special friends on Saturday evening. It was good to relax with a soft breeze from Nassau Harbour and enjoy some stimulating conversation.

Erskine played guitar and sang for a couple of hours. The guests gathered around and were a wonderful audience, singing or dancing or just enjoying the music.

We were also entertained by one of the guests who sang some Spanish songs so beautifully. He played Erskine’s guitar with a Flamenco beat!

FREE for limited time only! – “The Scottish Connection”

As a tribute to my Scottish mother, the late Josephine McMurtrie Johanson, who passed away ten years ago this month and with Mothering Sunday coming up, I am offering the e-book version of “The Scottish Connection: A Journey Back – Mini-memoir” FREE for a limited time only.

In this nostalgic illustrated memoir I share memories of my 1978 journey back to Scotland with my mother and young sons, to revisit our Scottish roots. The Scottish Connection contains a wealth of information - Scottish ancestry, historical facts, genealogy, comparable 1978 prices, geographical descriptions, personal anecdotes, nostalgia and precious old photos.

My mother, the late Josephine McMurtrie Johanson
Excerpt from The Scottish Connection: “A little way out of Aberfoyle we found the lodge on the Craigenveoch estate where my mother and family had lived. On warm, summer evenings she, Jack and Ray leaned out of their bedroom windows, watching their parents sing along with friends to gramophone music as they rowed across Loch Ard. The loch was described by Sir Walter Scott as a ‘beautiful sheet of water … a spacious mirror’.”

I'm busy working on a new book of short stories. Adding more atmosphere and substance to one of the stories right now. More goes into these little “gems” than most people realize!

POEM "THE LOVE NEST" - EVERGREEN MAGAZINE'S SPRING 2017 ISSUE

My poem “The Love Nest”, about a fictitious old couple in England whose children live far away from them, appears in the “Scrap Book” section of the Spring 2017 issue of “Evergreen” magazine, U.K. The couple is sometimes a little lonely, but are grateful to have each other. And they are not neglected, as a neighbour always looks out for them!

I was delighted to receive a lovely pack of twelve Colin Carr Notelets yesterday from Evergreen, with a letter of thanks for the poem.

SOME STILL RECOVERING FROM HURRICANE MATTHEW!

Repairing a roof in Nassau, Bahamas,
damaged from Hurricane Matthew

It’s almost 5 months since Hurricane Matthew devastated New Providence and some of the other islands of The Bahamas, and repairs are still being done on some properties. And yes, as is often the case here, the roofers have no harnesses to save them from a fall!
