ReplyDeleteMy first ever sale was the The Lady – I loved the type of fiction they published. Such a shame they cut it. Bet I'm not the only person who stopped reading when they did.
Thanks, Patsy. The editor who gave me my first break with The Lady was Matt Warren. I was over the moon! He accepted several of my stories after that. Then Mrs. Sam Taylor took over and accepted more of my stories, for which I was most grateful. However, I had been warned that they would be phasing out short stories and then the cut finally came. Sam Taylor left and a new editor took over. That seems to have clinched it. Such a shame, like you say. The Lady was always in our house when I was a child! My grandmother loved it. That's interesting what you say about people not reading it any more when they cut out the short stories. I wasn't aware of that, but it makes sense! Articles and features are most enjoyable to read, but a little bit of fiction in a magazine brightens a reader's day.
