STARBUCKS CABLE BEACH MANAGER WITH ISLAND SURPRISE

Starbucks Cable Beach manager Barron Dean with his copy of “Island Surprise: A Bahamian Adventure”. Author Fay Knowles to right of photo.

“A surprise trip…A wild journey…An unforgettable adventure. When two young Bahamian boys set off with their parents to surprise their grandparents for Easter, they expect sunshine and smiles—not storms, detours, and daring twists along the way. From rough flights to risky island travel, “Island Surprise: A Bahamian Adventure” is a heart-warming tale of family, courage, and resilience that shows how love can guide you through even the toughest journeys. Beautifully illustrated in full colour, this action-packed story for ages 5 - 10 celebrates togetherness, island life, and the magic of never giving up. Perfect for bedtime reading, classroom sharing, or gifting to young adventurers who love stories filled with heart.”

Russian Folktale "The Very Large Turnip"!

This photo was taken when I was eleven years old, attending a ballet school in Buckingham. I’m third from right. It's "The Very Large Turnip" that I appeared in. I read that “The Very Large Turnip” (or "The Enormous Turnip") is a traditional Russian folktale about a farmer who grows a gigantic turnip that is too big to pull up alone. Through teamwork and perseverance, he calls on his wife, granddaughter, dog, cat, and finally a tiny mouse to help, eventually succeeding together. This was also around the time I wrote my first children’s book. I scribbled it in an old ledger that my father gave me from his shop. I used to carry the book everywhere, up trees, on a bank of soft primroses by a little stream, in school recesses…. Sadly, the book, which I completed writing in a year, was later lost somewhere in my travels. I do still have part of it though, which I plan on resurrecting and publishing one day.
