Hearing about turkeys and hams being given out to needy families over the Holiday Season reminded me of when I was a trainee reporter for a news agency in Exeter, Devon.
One of my most enjoyable assignments around Christmastime
was to seek out families in need for my employers to give free turkeys to, write a human-interest story about the presentations and the circumstances of
the recipients, and then phone the story in to the national newspapers in London
(no internet in those days!).
