THE LOVE OF A READER

It is most heartening when a reader tells an author how much they enjoyed their book. And this goes for friends and family too! This morning a long time family friend, Bill Tizard, who bought a paperback copy of my romantic suspense novel “Love at Sunset”, told me that he loved it! Not only that, but he has read it twice and plans on reading it a third time after a brief break, so that it would all be new to him again!

Bill said he loves the main characters Violet and Gordon and finds the plot really exciting. He also said he immersed himself in the settings and felt like he was actually going to Scotland himself and “enjoying the atmosphere”!

Bill doesn’t have a computer and is not online, so I am happy that he can bury himself in a book and enjoy being whisked away to fascinating places and interesting people! Thank you, Bill!

Here’s the plot for “Love at Sunset”:

“Facing imminent danger and fierce opposition to love a second time around, Violet and Gordon seek a new life in Scotland, thousands of miles away from The Bahamas, but trouble soon catches up with them. The couple finds themselves in and out of one adventure after another!

”In the meantime, an unscrupulous attorney appears on the scene, along with a crooked realtor. What they do and the extent they would go to leads to a shocking ending. Greed, jealousy, family secrets and bitter grudges worm their way throughout this story!”

"SHARKS IN THE RUNWAY" BY CAPTAIN PAUL J. HARDING

Diver, pilot and owner/operator of Safari Seaplanes, Captain Paul J. Harding’s book "Sharks in the Runway: A Seaplane Pilot's Fifty-Year Journey Through Bahamian Times!" looks like a fascinating read!

This reminds me of the time I worked for a construction engineer on downtown Bay Street, Nassau. Once a week I had to walk over to the British Colonial Hotel, pull up my trousers and wade out in the clear blue water to a seaplane that landed just offshore. The pilot flew in once a week to pick up the payroll for staff on Lee Stocking Island. It was my job to make sure I delivered the money to him on time!

ADVENTURE IN THE SCOTTISH COUNTRYSIDE!

My romantic suspense novel “Love at Sunset” is romance, drama, suspense, adventure and action all rolled into one! Here’s an excerpt from the book, where Gordon and Violet are exploring the grounds of an historic old Scottish house:

“Gordon helped her up. She held on to him, as he tenderly dried each of her feet with his handkerchief and pushed them into the sandals. Then they made their way back to the house, where their car was parked. As they approached, they came across an astonishing scene, something they never expected to see in the middle of the Scottish countryside.”

SMORGASBORD OF ROMANTIC SHORT STORIES!

Excerpt from my short story “English Rose”, which appears in my book “Sunbeams from the Heart – A Collection of Twelve Romantic Short Stories”, available at Amazon and other online retailers:-

“He observed a slim young woman in a shiny blue raincoat scurrying along a path on the other side of the deep embankment. Blond hair spilled from her hood. Skidding on damp fallen leaves, she quickly caught her balance.

“Within minutes, she melted into a backdrop of orange and gold. He strained his eyes to look for her, but she had gone. A Marilyn Monroe, a Grace Kelly …. a Princess Diana. She had brought sunshine into his confined existence.”

DIARY OF A NOVEL!

"LOVE AT SUNSET" - THE MANUSCRIPT

Two years ago, I wrote on Facebook that I was “having such fun with my new romantic suspense novel” (Love at Sunset)!

I posted, “It's set in The Bahamas and Scotland. I started writing it on June 6th [2014], the 70th anniversary of ‘D Day' (very appropriate date to start, don't you think?!). I just love it! It's going really well and the words are flowing. I've written four chapters so far and am well into Chapter Five.”

I then posted on August 3rd, 2014 (two months later), “I've just finished the first draft of my novel - 30 chapters and around 80,000 words. Hooray! Now I have to start the editing process, in order to polish it up and get it ready to submit to agents.”

Who would ever have predicted back then that Love at Sunset would now be available all over the world. And I’m so glad I diarized the novel’s progress on Facebook!

SUNBEAMS FROM THE HEART POPULAR WITH AUSTRALIAN OLD TIMERS!

I was thrilled to hear from a cousin in Australia that after she read my book “Sunbeams from the Heart – A Collection of Twelve Romantic Short Stories”, the book has been “doing the rounds”, to the old residents where she works. She says some of the people are in their nineties and have thoroughly enjoyed reading the book. Their comments range from “a pleasure to read” to “easy to read” to “very enjoyable” to “lovely stories”.

My cousin says, “It has been a very suitable book for this age group, as they would not bother reading a novel, so the short stories and clear print make it easy for them to manage.”

It gives me such a wonderful feeling to know that so many readers out there are enjoying “Sunbeams from the Heart”, especially those who are confined to a residential home.
