GETTING THERE!

Now 34,000 words, but won't get to write much more of my novel DEADLY DECEIT (formerly Oleanders End) now until we get back from our Florida trip after Christmas. I'm only taking my phone as I like to travel light and I don't write on that, although some authors do. I'm most comfortable writing on my desktop. However, I've saved a pdf of my work in progress on my phone. That way while travelling I'll be able to read over the novel and make notes of any changes needed. And it's an extra backup too. You can never have enough backups!

In case I don’t get a chance again - Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Joyeux Noël, Feliz Navidad!

SECOND CHANCES ABOUND IN LOVE AT SUNSET!

A Long Island Bahamas beach. It was a beach similar
to this that the wily Zachary Tate in “Love at Sunset”
tried to get to when he had an unexpected confrontation!

Second chances abound in “Love at Sunset”! Violet and Gordon rekindle their decades-old attraction for each other, a career criminal has the opportunity to change his life, and a hard-working, single mother takes a chance that could improve her struggling existence. All of this against the backdrop of life in The Bahamas and Scotland where the main characters, Violet and Gordon, have a foothold in each.

A major hurricane attacks the Bahama Islands, threatening life and property, while in Scotland sinister strangers try to prevent dreams coming to fruition. The stunning beaches and quaint settlements of Long Island in The Bahamas contrast with the inner city of Nassau; the disparity between poverty and wealth is revealed; and the lengths that some would go to steal and defraud for financial gain is unexpected and shocking.

Love and romance also feature predominantly throughout the novel, with the passion of the young and some not so young! “Gripping, alluring and so wonderfully romantic on many different levels.” – Amazon Customer.

Paperback copies of “Love at Sunset” are available at Logos Bookstore, Harbour Bay, Nassau – or CLICK HERE to purchase the novel on Amazon (e-book and paperback versions).

THE LOVE OF A READER

It is most heartening when a reader tells an author how much they enjoyed their book. And this goes for friends and family too! This morning a long time family friend, Bill Tizard, who bought a paperback copy of my romantic suspense novel “Love at Sunset”, told me that he loved it! Not only that, but he has read it twice and plans on reading it a third time after a brief break, so that it would all be new to him again!

Bill said he loves the main characters Violet and Gordon and finds the plot really exciting. He also said he immersed himself in the settings and felt like he was actually going to Scotland himself and “enjoying the atmosphere”!

Bill doesn’t have a computer and is not online, so I am happy that he can bury himself in a book and enjoy being whisked away to fascinating places and interesting people! Thank you, Bill!

Here’s the plot for “Love at Sunset”:

“Facing imminent danger and fierce opposition to love a second time around, Violet and Gordon seek a new life in Scotland, thousands of miles away from The Bahamas, but trouble soon catches up with them. The couple finds themselves in and out of one adventure after another!

”In the meantime, an unscrupulous attorney appears on the scene, along with a crooked realtor. What they do and the extent they would go to leads to a shocking ending. Greed, jealousy, family secrets and bitter grudges worm their way throughout this story!”

I am delighted to reveal the exciting new cover for my romantic suspense novel “Love at Sunset”. Many thanks to my good friend, bestselling author Tanya R. Taylor for the cover design. Tanya also designed the original cover, which was lovely, but we decided we needed to portray the main protagonists Violet and Gordon more as the go-getters and jet-setters that they are!

CALLING ALL ANIMAL LOVERS!

For all of you animal lovers, there’s a little dog in my novel “Love at Sunset”! - Excerpt: “He took Snoopy for a quick walk in the wind and rain, made sure the dog had water and left a window slightly open, so his pet had enough air. The hurricane shutters would keep out any gusts of wind. Snoopy whimpered a little as Ian closed the doggy hatch and made preparations to leave. The dog lay in his basket, nose on paws, looking up at his master with worried eyes. His ears twitched at the increasing noise of the wind outside. ‘I’ll be back soon,’ Ian reassured his pet before he left."

ADVENTURE IN THE SCOTTISH COUNTRYSIDE!

My romantic suspense novel “Love at Sunset” is romance, drama, suspense, adventure and action all rolled into one! Here’s an excerpt from the book, where Gordon and Violet are exploring the grounds of an historic old Scottish house:

“Gordon helped her up. She held on to him, as he tenderly dried each of her feet with his handkerchief and pushed them into the sandals. Then they made their way back to the house, where their car was parked. As they approached, they came across an astonishing scene, something they never expected to see in the middle of the Scottish countryside.”

HURRICANE MATTHEW PERSONAL EXPERIENCE REPUBLISHED IN THE TRIBUNE

The Tribune picked up my article "Hurricane Matthew goes down in History" and ran it today in their "Insight" section on page 10 as "A storm to test the resilience of Bahamians". I was delighted by the great coverage! They even mention my romantic suspense novel "Love at Sunset", stating it features a fierce hurricane hitting The Bahamas; and my book "Sunbeams from the Heart - A Collection of Twelve Romantic Short Stories".

MORE WIND AND RAIN! FELT LIKE I WAS IN MY NOVEL!

An earlier flooded road on New Providence Island, Bahamas

What a day! It lashed down with rain and the wind didn’t let up either for some time. We heard it was a “trough”. A severe weather warning until 3 p.m. was issued by the Met Office, but we didn’t see it until 2 p.m. By then we had already attempted to get to church. Big mistake! Went through flooded roads and the brakes started to fail on our car. No problem. Erskine pulled over and pumped the brakes a little until it was safe to continue on.

I felt like I was in my novel “Love at Sunset”, where a fierce hurricane hits The Bahamas and Sandra’s husband has not used his best judgment, putting their children at risk! Here’s an excerpt:

“We’d better get back now.” Pete turned on the wipers and headed for home, but the wipers couldn’t move fast enough to clear the rain and debris from the windshield. He swerved to avoid fallen tree limbs on the road. And as large and heavy as his truck was, the wind wrestled wildly with it. He kept his hands firmly on the steering wheel. Then, just as they manoeuvred between bending casuarina trees on either side of the narrow road, they heard a loud crack. A large branch crashed on the truck, shattering the windscreen. The children screamed as the truck skidded out of control.

When we got back home after the service, one of the leaks had started again from the ceiling, so out came the bucket, hopefully for the last time. Our landlord is doing his best to get the roof repaired, but it can’t be that easy with the high cost of deductibles if you do have insurance, and so many roofs needing repaired right now.

A HURRICANE IN LOVE AT SUNSET TOO!

A fierce hurricane hits The Bahamas in my romantic suspense novel “Love at Sunset”! Here’s an excerpt from the novel, where Sandra’s husband has not used his best judgment and has put their children at risk:-

LOVE AND SUSPENSE IN "LOVE AT SUNSET"!

Excerpt from a Long Island, Bahamas, scene in my romantic suspense novel, “Love at Sunset”, set in The Bahamas and Scotland:-

“As darkness fell he heated up a can of soup and had it with some fresh, sweet Long Island bread. He made sure his door was locked, stretched out on the bed and tried to go to sleep. He kept thinking about the two men and wondered why they thought so highly of Violet Buchanan. As far as he was concerned, she was just an old lady with a lot of property that she really didn’t need.”

LOVE AT SUNSET - FULL OF DRAMA!

A review of my romantic suspense novel Love at Sunset by an Amazon customer: "Love at Sunset is a story about an elderly couple, Violet and Gordon, who have fallen deeply in love with one another. However, they face staunch opposition of that reality from their own children for various reasons. Determining to be together 'til the very end, they make a huge step to ensure that happens, no matter the cost. This story covers the drama-filled lives of a number of very interesting characters and I was amazed at how the author was able to craft such a plot and cover ground so extensively and cleverly. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and highly recommend it. It's gripping, alluring and so wonderfully romantic on many different levels.”

The plot of Love at Sunset follows the people in Violet and Gordon's lives - those who support them, others who wish to resist or harm them, and some on whom Cupid also comes calling. It portrays family discord and evil intent, but is not without a touch of humour. And it reveals the gap between rich and poor and the humanitarian works of those who care.

Available on Amazon and other online retailers as an e-book and in paperback.

DIARY OF A NOVEL!

"LOVE AT SUNSET" - THE MANUSCRIPT

Two years ago, I wrote on Facebook that I was “having such fun with my new romantic suspense novel” (Love at Sunset)!

I posted, “It's set in The Bahamas and Scotland. I started writing it on June 6th [2014], the 70th anniversary of ‘D Day' (very appropriate date to start, don't you think?!). I just love it! It's going really well and the words are flowing. I've written four chapters so far and am well into Chapter Five.”

I then posted on August 3rd, 2014 (two months later), “I've just finished the first draft of my novel - 30 chapters and around 80,000 words. Hooray! Now I have to start the editing process, in order to polish it up and get it ready to submit to agents.”

Who would ever have predicted back then that Love at Sunset would now be available all over the world. And I’m so glad I diarized the novel’s progress on Facebook!
